Bulls Sweep Maryland in Fourth Straight Victory on Senior Day

TAMPA, MARCH 23, 2019 – All three of USF's seniors posted straight-set wins to help power USF to a 7-0 sweep of Maryland on senior day.

USF (10-7, 4-0 AAC) won the doubles point in the blink of an eye with the help from duo Laura Pellicer Perello (Gandia, Valencia, Spain), and Janvhi Clark (Taurange, New Zealand), as well as the pairing of Ana Roman Dominguez (Burgos, Spain), and Amelie Boy (Trianon, Mauritis). Pellicer Perello and Clark won their match 6-0 on court three, while Boy and Roman Dominguez won 6-1 on court two.

Seniors Nicole Dzenga (Harare, Zimbabwe), and No. 46 Roman Dominguez were the first Bulls to put singles points on the board. Dzenga dominated her match on court five winning 6-2, 6-1, and extending the Bulls' lead to 2-0. No. 46 Roman Dominguez cruised to a 6-3, 6-1, victory at the premier spot, putting the Bulls up 3-0.

Pellicer Perello was in control from the beginning to the end of her match. The freshman was the third Bull in a row to win in straight sets, with a 6-2, 6-2, victory on court three, clinching the win for USF.

Sophomore Alexandria Mjos (Austin, Texas), played with confidence and determination to eventually win her match 6-3, 6-2, on court six. Boy battled to three sets and eventually won in a super-tiebreaker, 2-6, 6-0, 1-0(4).

A fitting end to USF's senior day, senior Vanja Klaric (Gaborone, Botswana), was the final Bull of the day to win her match. Klaric took her first set 6-2, and battled back from a 5-1 deficit to take down her opponent in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5.

Quotable
Head coach Cristina Moros on the Senior Day victory:
"For them [the seniors] to do what they've done for us, for this program and for themselves these past four years, it's definitely bittersweet. I'm just so proud of the people they've become and the adjustments they've made in their tennis game, and just how far they've come, just in general, it's just a really special moment to see it."
