USF Takes on Penn in Eight-Game Home Stretch
TAMPA, March 6, 2019 – The University of South Florida women's tennis team will go up against Penn at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts on Thursday at noon.
USF (6-6, 1-0 AAC) is coming off of a 4-2 win over its first conference opponent, Tulane. Senior
Nicole Dzenga (Harare, Zimbabwe), clinched the victory for USF with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, win on court four.
Senior
Ana Roman Dominguez (Burgos, Spain), comes into this match at No. 43 in the ITA Singles rankings, and has nine wins, three against ranked opponents at the premier spot, for a 9-1 record.
Freshman
Amelie Boy (Trianon, Mauritis), has played at the two, three, four and five spots this season and improved her record to 8-4 on Sunday when she won in straight-sets on court two.
Laura Pellicer Perello (Gandia, Valencia, Spain), is coming into this match on a three game winning streak on three different courts. The freshman has won five of her last six matches.
Doubles duo Roman Dominguez and Boy are now 4-4 on the season at the No. 2 spot, while the tandem of Dzenga and senior
Vanja Klaric (Gaborone, Botswana), have a 5-3 record at the No. 1 spot.
USF has favored its home court this season and has won four of its last five matches at home.
Scouting the Opponent:
Penn
Penn (6-2) is coming into this match after a 4-2 loss to its first ranked opponent of the season, No. 19 Old Dominion. The Quakers are undefeated at their home court this season, and have one road loss and one neutral match loss. Penn has one ranked singles player, No. 111 freshman Lulia Bryzgalova, who is unbeaten on the top court this season, including one ranked win over then-No. 75 Erica Oosterhout from Harvard. The Quaker's best doubles pair, Bryzgalova and senior Ojasvinee Singh are 7-0 this season at the No. 2 spot.
