TAMPA, Aug. 28, 2019 – USF women's soccer goes on its first road trip of the season this week to Saint Leo, Fla. to take on the Lions. The road trip is short-lived, however, as the team is back at Corbett Stadium on Sunday for a matchup against the Ohio State Buckeyes.

No. 21 USF (1-1) emerged from the opening week splitting its results against two SEC opponents. Sydny Nasello (Land O' Lakes, Fla.) was the heroine in the season opener, driving home a shot from distance to lift the Bulls over Auburn on Aug. 22. Senior Evelyne Viens (L'Ancienne-Lorette, Quebec, Canada) has been a critical part of Denise Schilte-Brown's offense so far this season, providing the other goal against Auburn. The All-American forward challenges opposing goalkeepers and sets up opportunities for her fellow teammates all over the pitch.

Junior Sabrina Wagner (New Port Richey, Fla.) won her first American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week award. She assisted Nasello's game-winner against Auburn and played 73 minutes against Florida. The Bulls defense limited Florida to only four shots and two shots on goal in the 2-0 loss that drew a program record 2,011 fans on Aug. 25.

SAINT LEO (0-0-0)
Saint Leo's season has yet to start. The Lions play USF to open their exhibition schedule, even though the match will count toward the Bulls' regular season record. After a 3-10-2 finish in 2018, the Lions brought on new head coach Peter McGahey to lead the team. The Saint Leo roster features 12 new players, including seven freshmen and five transfers.

Saint Leo's leading scorer from last season returns in Carolina Solis-Deleon. She put up five goals last year on 12 shots on goal.

OHIO STATE (0-2)
The Buckeyes have had a rough start to 2019 after two close losses. A season-opening 2-1 loss against Louisville was followed by a 3-1 loss against Missouri. The B1G member now takes a road trip to the Sunshine State, where it will face UCF on Wednesday before moving to USF on Sunday. Ohio State was picked to finish fourth in the Big 10 by conference coaches.

Sophomore Kayla Fischer tied for the team lead in scoring last season and already netted a goal this season. Redshirt freshman Jordan Silkowitz has been the goalkeeper so far this season, however junior Bailey Kolinski has also seen time in net in her collegiate career.

NOTABLES
  • Viens continues to pace the American on the stat sheet, leading the conference in shots (10), while ranking in the top-10 in shots per game (5, 2nd), points (2, t-7th) and goals (1, t-5th).
  • USF broke its program attendance record this past Sunday with 2,011 fans coming through Corbett turnstiles. The previous record was 1,319 against FIU in 2016.
  • Nasello and freshman Lucy Roberts (Cheshire, England) were named to The American Honor Roll for the first week of the season.
