AAC Announces Cancellation of Competition and Championships for Remainder of Academic Year

TAMPA, MARCH 16, 2020 – The American Athletic Conference announced today that all athletic competition and championships have been canceled for the remainder of the academic year. In addition, all American institutions have ceased practicing.

"The decision to cancel all spring athletic seasons and cease practices conference wide was not an easy one, but it is prudent, appropriate and fully supported by USF," Vice President of Athletics Michael Kelly said. "The health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches and community as well as the interest of the greater good is priority number one. We will continue to support our student-athletes and staff to our fullest ability and make adjustments until such time as we can begin to return to more normal operations."

USF previously announced that the spring football game, scheduled for April 18, will not be played on that date. All USF Athletics teams have ceased competition and practice.

"USF will continue to monitor the latest information and consult with our medical staff as we determine the next appropriate steps, including when the resumption of practice sessions is prudent," Kelly said.

Fans who have purchased individual game tickets or season passes are being automatically reimbursed by USF ticket office for the games missed. Refunds will be processed back to the form of payment used for the original purchase. All purchasers will be contacted once the refund is processed. Fans with questions may contact the USF ticket office at 1-800-GoBulls.

As directed by the Florida Board of Governors, USF will join other state universities in beginning to transition all classes to remote instruction as soon as possible.  For USF, fully remote instruction will begin March 23, following next week's spring break.  This will continue through at least April 5.  Student support functions, such as counseling and advising, will continue remotely.
USF's campuses will remain open and many normal university operations will continue, including Student Health Services and USF Health clinical operations.  USF residence halls remain open, however students are encouraged to remain off campus during this time, if other reasonable accommodations are possible.
