Four Bulls earn American All-Conference honors
TAMPA (December 1, 2021) – A quartet of players from the University of South Florida have earned postseason honors as the American Athletic Conference announced its 2021 All-Conference Teams on Wednesday.
Demetris Harris (Jacksonville) and Antonio Grier (Atlanta, Ga.) were named to the American All-Conference Second Team while Jaren Mangham (Detroit, Mich.) and Spencer Shrader (Lithia) earned Honorable Mention recognition.
Grier lands on the All-Conference Team for the second time in as many seasons. Harris, Mangham and Shrader each received All-Conference honors for the first time in their careers.
Harris started at left guard in all 12 games for the Bulls this season and has accumulated 41 career starts on the offensive line. His efforts helped South Florida run for a program-record 421 yards on October 23 in a 34-14 win over Temple.
Grier paced the USF defense this season with 92 total tackles and 52 solo tackles. He ranked fifth in the AAC in total tackles. The linebacker also had a team-best 9.0 tackles-for-loss, 3.0 sacks and four quarterback hurries. Grier's two interceptions and two forced fumbles tied for the team lead.
In his first season with the Bulls, Mangham rushed for a team-leading 671 yards and 15 touchdowns. His 15 touchdowns ranked third in the league and tied for second all-time in USF single-season history with Marlon Mack (2016). Mangham had a stretch of seven consecutive games with a rushing touchdown which also tied for second in team history.
Shrader, a semifinalist for the 2021 Lou Groza Place-Kicker Award, went 11-for-13 on the season in field goals and was perfect in 33 PATs. His two misses were from 48 and 51 yards. Shrader ranked second in the AAC in field goal percentage (84.6) and he nailed a career-long 52-yard attempt against Temple on October 23.
