TAMPA, FLA., Feb. 10, 2021 – The University of South Florida women's tennis team suits up for its home opener against the No. 22 Florida Gators tomorrow at 2 p.m. followed by a trip to Fort Myers to play FGCU scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13.

Due to virus mitigation measures and the size of the venue, USF will not allow fans inside the USF Varsity Tennis Courts complex.

South Florida is coming off of a win against Stetson, 5-2, and tough loss on the road to UNF, 6-1. Junior
Amelie Boy (Trianon, Mauritius) picked up her first singles wins during the road stretch, winning in 6-2 straight sets at Stetson and then defeated UNF's No. 84 Lucia Montano, 6-4, 0-6, 10-5. Senior
Evelyne Tiron (Bucharest, Romania) and junior Laura Pellicer (Gandia, Valencia, Spain) also won their first singles matches of the season against Stetson.

Cristina Moros said. "They are historically one of the best teams in the country each year and this year is no different. We are looking forward to a great match at home before we head to FGCU to play an always gritty and competitive FGCU team. Our team has been getting better with each match that we play, and I expect us to keep going in that direction." Â

Scouting Florida
The Gators are ranked No. 22 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and are coming off of a loss to No. 20 UCF on Tuesday. Florida is 1-3 on the season with a win against Georgia State and losses to No. 7 FSU and No. 20 UCF.

Florida has two players ranked in the ITA Singles Ranking: McCartney Kessler (No. 32) and Layne Sleeth (No. 65). They also have the No. 26 ranked doubles pair of Marlee Zein and Kessler.

Scouting FGCU
FGCU is currently 0-1 with a lost to Florida International on Jan. 30. They are led by graduate student Maja Ornberg, who competed at the No. 1 singles spot all last season for the Eagles. Ornberg finished last season with a 4-8 singles record and 5-4 doubles record.

In the last matchup against the Eagles, USF came out on top with a 5-2 win and currently holds a three-match win streak against FGCU.
