TAMPA, FLA., Feb. 19, 2021 – The University of South Florida women's tennis team returns to the courts after a week off to face Liberty University, Sunday at 12 p.m. on the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
Due to virus mitigation measures and the size of the venue, USF will not allow fans inside the USF Varsity Tennis Courts complex.
South Florida is coming off of a tough 5-2 loss at home against No. 22 Florida, followed by a 5-2 road win against FGCU. Senior Alex Mjos (Austin, Texas) put on a strong performance and went 2-0 in singles last week, recording the only singles win against Florida. Her second win gave the Bulls the match-clinching point at FGCU. Sophomore
Margriet Timmermans (Bergen op Zoom, Netherlands) improved to 3-0 in singles, adding a win on court six at FGCU, and is now 3-3 on court two in doubles with partner
Grace Schumacher (Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia).
During the last two matches, the Bulls were to find success in doubles for the first time this season, while picking up their first doubles win against Florida. They continued the streak at Florida Gulf Coast.
"We had a chance to reset, rest and work on some things more in depth this week in preparation for an extremely tough Liberty team," head coach
Cristina Moros said. "Looking forward to competing as a team again at home on Sunday."
