TAMPA, Fla., Feb. 21, 2021 – The University of South Florida women's tennis team continue their win streak and pick up their first victory at home, defeating Liberty on Sunday, 4-3.
The Bulls got off to a quick start with junior
Amelie Boy (Trianon, Mauritius) and senior
Evelyne Tiron (Bucharest, Romania) winning their doubles match, 6-3. Soon after, sophomore
Grace Eland (Manchester, England) and junior Laura Pellicer (Gandia, Valencia, Spain) clinched the doubles point for the Bulls with a 6-4 victory.
South Florida (3-5) stayed hot and picked up the first two singles courts to extend their lead to three. Senior Alex Mjos (Austin, Texas) won the first singles point on court five in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, followed by Boy cleaning up court one, defeating Liberty's Alexandra Almborg, 7-6, 6-1.
The Flames (6-2) won the next two courts in straights sets, but Timmermans clinched the win for the Bulls, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, on court six against Micaela Ode Mitre. Liberty added one more point on court four in tiebreakers to close the match.
