
Weir Leads USF Cross Country to Second Place at FSU Last Chance Meet

TALLAHASSEE, FLA., MARCH 5, 2021 – Sophomore Alexandra Weir (Toronto, Ontario) placed 13th overall and led the USF women's cross country team to a second-place finish on Friday at the FSU Last Chance Meet.
Weir crossed the finish line with a time of 22:42.3 in the 6K race, while junior Hannah Offenback (Monticello, Ill.) took second for USF and 16th overall with a time of 23:21.3.
Sophomores Nicole Capparell (Hazleton, Pa.) and Andie Gonzalez (Naples, Fla.) both finished in the top 20, as Capparell was 19th overall (23:53.1) and Gonzalez finished right behind in 20th place (23:53.9).
Sophomore Ben Kailes (Jacksonville, Fla.) was the top finisher for the men's team with a time of 25:58.1 and a 35th-place showing in the 8K race.
"This meet provided valuable experience to both teams," USF head coach Erik Jenkins said. "We realize there is still room for improvement, but the women were able to second a second-place finish."

Erik Jenkins is in his second season as the head coach of USF cross country. The history of USF's women's program consists of five conference and two region championships as well as five NCAA qualifying teams. The USF men's program has produced seven conference championships and three NCAA qualifying teams.
