Bulls Fall to No. 46 Tulsa, 4-1

TAMPA, Fla., April 17, 2021 – The University of South Florida women's tennis team closed out the regular season with a 4-1 loss to No. 46 Tulsa on Saturday afternoon at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
 
Laura Pellicer (Gandia, Valencia, Spain) and Grace Eland (Manchester, England) dropped court one, 6-1, to the No. 77-ranked pair of Martina Okalova and Vera Ploner. Grace Schumacher (Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia) and Margriet Timmermans (Bergen op Zoom, Netherlands) then evened the matchup, taking court two 7-5, causing doubles to come down to the final court. Alex Mjos (Austin, Texas) and Evelyne Tiron (Bucharest, Romania) stepped up and gave the Bulls the advantage, earning the doubles point, winning in tiebreakers, 7-6 (7-4).
 
In singles, Tulsa took the first three matches in straight sets to take the lead against USF. Timmermans took the first set, 6-1 on court five, but dropped the next two sets 6-2 for the Golden Hurricane to clinch the win.
 
Lucia Garrigues (Valencia, Spain) fought to take the first set 7-5, however lost the second set, 6-2. The third set was not played due to Tulsa clinching the win.

Head Coach Cristina Moros on Saturday's loss:
"Tulsa proved to be too tough down the stretch for us, credit to them for taking control of the match after the good starts that we had. I am happy we were able to honor our seniors before the match. Looking forward to the Conference tournament next week and see what we are made of in the post season."
