MIAMI, Fla., April 3, 2021 – The University of South Florida women's tennis team lost, 4-0 to No. 28 Rice on Saturday at the FIU Tennis Courts in Miami.
The Owls (12-4) clinched the doubles point by taking sets on court one, against Grace Schumacher (Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia) and Amelie Boy (Mauritius, Trianon) 6-1, while Rice's doubles pair of Anastasia Smirnova and Linda Huang took court three over Alex Mjos (Austin, Texas) and Margriet Timmermans (Bergen Op Zoom, Netherlands), 6-3.
Rice clinched the match after winning the first three singles courts in straight sets. The Bulls (7-11), however, had a strong performance on courts that went unfinished.
Two Bulls took their first set: Evelyne Tiron (Bucharest, Romania) won the first set, 7-5, and had 2-0 advantage in the second. Timmermans, also put on a dominant performance to take the first set, 6-4 and a 3-3 hold in the second set before play was discontinued.
