
KaLeigh Biss Earns Prestigious Golden Bull Award

TAMPA (May 27, 2021) โ Graduating senior KaLeigh Biss of the University of South Florida track and field team has been selected as a 2021 Golden Bull Award winner.

The Golden Bull Award is one of USF's highest honors given annually during the spring semester to deserving undergraduate and graduate students who encompass the spirit of USF and have demonstrated its values. Recipients must exemplify exceptional leadership and service to the University and the community.

A leader on the cross country and track and field teams, Biss has worked tirelessly to help create a welcoming, respectful and inclusive environment for her teammates.

Enrolled in the USF Honors College, Biss is working on a capstone course to improve the livelihoods of small business owners and residents, aimed at increasing greenspace in the area. She also worked on a project during her freshman year to build infrastructure for a community garden in Tampa. Biss has always found ways to improve her surrounding communities, logging 50 hours of community service in the Tampa Bay region.

An engineering student, who has maintained a 4.0-grade point average, Biss has studied abroad as part of the Honors Abroad Program and it has been an important value of hers to interact with and learn from others. During her time at USF, she has also worked full-time at an engineering consulting firm and has served as a mentor in the lab to take on intricate and important lab testing processes.

A graduate of Northeast High School, Biss plans to attend graduate school in the fall to continue working in the field of sustainability and environmental design to improve communities.

USF Athletics sponsors 19 varsity men's and women's teams that compete in 11 different sports, 18 at the NCAA Division I level in the American Athletic Conference. The Bulls' athletic program began in 1965 and is in its 55thย season in 2020-21. Nearly 450 student-athletes train and compete in the athletic district located on the east end of the campus in Tampa, Fla. The Bulls have claimed 22 American Athletic Conference team titles since joining the conference in 2013, and own 126 conference titles overall. The Bulls posted a combined annual grade-point average over 3.0 for the fifth straight year in 2019-20 and have posted a program record 12 straight semesters with a combined GPA over 3.0. USF has had nearly 450 student-athletes earn their degree since 2016-17.
