Madeleine Penman-Derstine earned her first American Athletic Conference weekly honor as the league's rookie of the week, the organization announced on Monday.
"I'm so excited for Madeleine that she was able to step on the field and make such an impact for us in her first collegiate games," head coach
Denise Schilte-Brown said. "She's got a very bright future ahead of her with so much potential. I'm proud that she's being recognized this early in her career."
Penman-Derstine (Toronto, Quebec, Canada) made her first collegiate start and scored her first collegiate goal, the game-winner in the second half, in the season opener against Florida. She also earned a start against North Florida on Sunday. In total, she played 125 minutes between the two games, taking a combined five shots with four on goal.
Sydny Nasello (Land O' Lakes, Fla.) was also named to the league's weekly honor roll. She scored the game-winning penalty kick against North Florida in the second OT period. Across the two games, she played 173 minutes, tallying a goal and an assist, taking seven shots with four going on goal.
The Bulls are back in action on Thursday, as LSU visits Corbett Stadium at 4 p.m. Between the women's game and the men's game at 7 p.m., the Tampa Bay Rowdies will host a youth soccer clinic at USF. The clinic is open to children under the age of 12 and prior registrants get free admission to both games.
