TAMPA, Fla., Aug. 23, 2021 – The University of South Florida women's soccer team continues its 2021 season with another home matchup, this time against SEC-foe LSU. The Bulls started the season 2-0 for the second consecutive season.
Sydny Nasello (Land O' Lakes, Fla.) and
Madeleine Penman-Derstine (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) scored the game-winning goals for the opening-week games, against North Florida and Florida, respectively. Penman-Derstine was named AAC Rookie of the Week for her first collegiate goal.
Tampa Bay Rowdies Clinic
In conjunction with the Tampa Bay Rowdies, USF women's and men's soccer will be hosting a clinic in between games of Thursday's doubleheader. The event is open for children under the age of 12. Scouting the LSU Tigers
LSU has started its 2021 season with back-to-back wins, a 2-1 victory over Southern Mississippi and a 8-0 triumph against Sam Houston. Last season, the Tigers finished 8-8-3, missing the NCAA tournament.
This season, Tinaya Alexander leads the Tigers so far in scoring with four goals and one assist. Alesia Garcia is right behind her with three goals and one assist.

LSU won the lone meeting so far in the all-time series, a 2-1 victory for the Tigers at Corbett Stadium in 2009.

The USF women's soccer team has posted eight consecutive seasons of 10-plus wins and nine in the last 10 years under head coach Denise Schilte-Brown. The Bulls made their first NCAA tournament appearance in 2010 and returned in 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. South Florida has won four consecutive conference championships, earning the tournament title in 2017, 2019 and 2020 as well as the regular-season title in 2018 and 2020. The program had its first draft pick and second-highest pick in USF Athletics history with Evelyne Viens being taken with the fifth overall pick in the 2020 NWSL Draft by Sky Blue FC, now Gotham FC.
