TAMPA (Feb. 13, 2022) – The University of South Florida women's tennis team continued its home schedule Sunday, falling to SMU 4-3 at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.

The Mustangs opened the scoring by securing the doubles point early on against the Bulls. SMU earned the point with a pair of 6-4 wins, first on court one over the Bulls' Sierra Berry and Amelie Boy and then on court two against Grace Schumacher and Margriet Timmermans.

The Mustangs won the first three matches in singles on courts five (6-3, 6-1), six (6-0, 6-1) and four (6-2, 6-2) to claim the win over the Bulls.

USF, however, impressed on the first three courts, claiming victories on each. On court two, Berry continued her dominant season and improved to 4-2 on the year – and 4-1 at No. 2 singles – earning South Florida's first point of the afternoon in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3.

Laura Pellicer had a battle in the first set on court three, winning 7-5, but made quick work of her SMU foe in the second set, 6-2. Pellicer evened her record at 3-3 on the year and 3-1 on court three.

Grace Schumacher earned the final point of the day for the Bulls on court one to improve to 2-3 playing at the No. 1 position. Â Schumacher's match was the only one in singles to go to three sets. After falling in the first, 2-6, Schumacher battled back in the final two sets to win 6-3, 10-6.
