South Florida Faces North Florida on Friday in its 2022 Home Opener

TAMPA (Feb. 3, 2022) – The University of South Florida women's tennis team returns to Tampa to open its home schedule with a matchup against North Florida on Friday at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts. First serve is slated for 1:30 p.m.
 
The Bulls are aiming to open the home season with a strong win after splitting their season-opening road trip that included a loss to No. 20 ranked Florida.
 
Laura Pellicer (Gandia, Valencia, Spain) leads the way for the Bulls with a 2-2 record. Pellicer won her match against Memphis in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4. On top of that, she won her match versus Florida A&M in a tight tiebreaker set, 2-6, 7-6, 12-10.
 
On the doubles side, the Bulls' No. 1 team of Amelie Boy (Trianon, Mauritius) and Sierra Berry (Frisco, Texas) are the pairings to watch. They remain undefeated on the year with a 2-0 record in completed matches. Against both Florida A&M and Memphis, they won both matches in dominant fashion, 6-1 and 6-3 respectively.
 
Scouting North Florida
The Ospreys (0-3) enter the matchup following a competitive 0-2 start to the season at the ITA Kickoff. There, they lost matchups against No. 7 Georgia and Iowa.
 
Highlighting North Florida's roster is Catherine Gulihur. The senior from Camp Pendleton, Calif. is the No. 32 ranked player in the nation according to the ITA and is currently 2-1 on the year.
 
Gulihur is also part of the No. 9 ranked doubles team in the country with Ana Paula Melilo. The duo is 1-0 on the year with one unfinished match against Georgia.
