TAMPA (April 3, 2022) – The University of South Florida women's tennis team fell to No. 42 Florida International on Sunday afternoon, 4-0, at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
FIU jumped on the Bulls quickly in the doubles matchups, handing
Amelie Boy and
Sierra Berry a 6-1 loss on court one, before
Grace Schumacher and
Margriet Timmermans evened things up at one match apiece with a resounding 6-2 victory on court two.
The doubles point would come down to court three and the Bulls'
Laura Pellicer and
Selin Yaylali. The home tandem found themselves down, 5-3, before cutting the FIU advantage to 5-4. The Panthers, however, closed out in the end, 6-4 to secure the point and take a 1-0 lead in the dual. Â
Singles was a similar story for Stanford, with each match decided in straight sets. The Panthers defeated
Sierra Berry on court one, 6-2, 6-0 and then
Margriet Timmermans, 6-3, 6-3 on court four. FIU closed out the dual, and the 4-0 win, with a 6-1, 7-5 win over
Selin Yaylali on court six.
South Florida's
Laura Pellicer (6-4, 2-6) and
Amelie Boy (6-4, 3-3) were in a position to pick up points on court three and court five, respectively, when the Panthers secured the victory.
