USF Cross Country Debuts 2022 Season

Orlando, Fla., September 3, 2022 – The University of South Florida cross country men and women's teams completed their first meet of the season at the UCF Invitational this past Friday, Sept. 2.
 
For the men's 5K, Benjamin Kailes (Jacksonville, Fla.) placed fifth out of the 55 runners with a time of 15:47.4, only a millisecond behind the fourth position. Teammates Tyler Wadsworth (Port Charlotte, Fla.), Sebastian Edwards (Celebration, Fla.) and Nickolas Kamen (Naples, Fla.) claimed positions 17, 21, and 24, respectively. USF placed fifth position out of the nine schools competing in the race with 92 points.
 
For the women's 5K, the Bulls also earned fifth position with 140 points. Sydney Granack (Bradenton, Fla.) checked in 14th place with a time of 19:10.7 in the course while Kelly Lynch (Wilmington, Del.) completed the course 27 seconds later with a time of 19:37.5. Cora Kolodge (Fair Haven, Mich.) placed 34th as teammate Chloe Byrd (Seoul, South Korea) inched behind in 35th.

"We had a solid outing in Orlando. There are certainly areas we can improve on, but we have the capacity to do so," head coach Erik Jenkins said. "I look forward to watching the group develop."
 
Up next, USF travels to Florence, Ala., to compete in the North Alabama Showcase on Friday, September 16.

About USF Cross Country
The USF Cross Country team has earned 2 All-America selections, Christina Benton in 2002 and Gray Mavhera in 1994. The Bulls have advanced to the NCAA Cross Country Championships seven times in program history, three times for the men and four times for the women. The USF men's team have won seven team conference championships and the women have won five team championships. Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2019and during his tenure the Bulls posted twelve program records and 106 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium, as well as the 2022 AAC Country Cross Country Championship at Holloway Park.
