
USF Sailing Places 15th at Atlantic Coast Women’s Championship

The Bulls competed against the top 18 teams in the country.
TAMPA (October 17, 2023) – The University of South Florida sailing team competed in the Atlantic Coast Women's Championship at Yale last weekend. The Bulls competed against the top 18 teams in the country, including the defending National Champion, Stanford. Racing was conducted October 14-15 on Long Island Sound.
Saturday's weather was all-day drizzle with very light winds. As the cold front pushed through overnight, Sunday featured brisk winds and cooler temperatures.
The Bulls started the duo of Emma Shakespeard and Jewel Kelly in the A division with Eden Nykamp and Hannah Marsicano in the B division. On Sunday, the A division was sailed by Kay Brunsvold and Kalea Woodard with the B division sailors remaining the same.
Twelve races were completed in each division. The A division's combined scoring resulted in a 15th place finish and the B division placed 12th. Overall the Bulls ended with 276 points, 15th out of the best 18 teams in the country, narrowly missing Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 12th who had 271 points.
The final regatta for the team is October 27-28, the SAISA Conference Women's Championships, which will be hosted by the Bulls on USF's St. Petersburg campus.

The USF sailing program has reached the national finals in 10 of the last 11 years. The Bulls finished in the top 10 during the 2012 and 2013 seasons. The sailing team is based out of St. Petersburg and has been led since 2014 by head coach Allison Jolly, a former USA Olympian, 2016 Florida Sports Hall of Fame inductee and 2019 U.S. National Sailing Hall of Fame inductee.
