Tampa, Fla. (October 2, 2023) – The University of South Florida women's tennis team hosted and competed in the 10th annual Bedford Cup from September 29-October 1 against some of the top players in the state of Florida. Graduate student Marta Falceto Font and junior transfer Gargi Pawar each posted 3-1 records in singles action while the teams of Gargi and Kelly Vargas along with Grace Schumacher and Ireland Simme posted a pair of doubles wins.
Font and Nadja Bay Christians opened tandem play on Friday with a 6-3 win over Florida Gulf Coast. The teams of Schumacher/Simme and Pawar/Vargas each suffered setbacks on Friday before going 2-0 in their respective doubles matches on Saturday.
Font posted a 1-1 record in singles play on Friday before picking up wins on Saturday and Sunday over a pair of opponents from FGCU. Pawar also opened with a 1-1 record Friday on her court and went on to earn wins on Saturday and Sunday.
Schumacher (2-2) tallied singles wins over opponents from Florida State and FAU. Simme notched a win over Florida A&M and Vargas recorded a victory over FGCU on Friday.
After dropping a pair of singles matches on Friday, Melisa Senli bounced back with wins on Saturday over UNF and on Sunday against Florida State.
