Tampa, Fla. (Feb. 23, 2023) – The University of South Florida women's tennis team secured a hard-fought victory on Thursday against Stetson.

In doubles action, it was a back-and-forth competition the whole way through, with there being 5-5 ties on all three courts at one point.

On court two, USF's Sierra Berry and Cliona Walsh were able to outlast Stetson's Cheri Darley and Magdalena Hedrzak, winning 7-5. The Hatters responded with a 7-6 win on court three, meaning that the doubles point would be decided by court one.

South Florida's Grace Schumacher and Margriet Timmermans gave it their all but couldn't seal the deal, falling 6-7. This gave the Hatters the point and marked the Bulls fifth straight doubles loss.

In singles action, The Bulls took an early point on court two after Stetson's Nadejda Maslove was forced to forfeit in the second set.

On court three, USF's Laura Pellicer got the job done quickly. Pellicer gave the Bulls their second point of the day with a two-set, 6-4, 6-3 win.

Sierra Berry followed with another Bulls point on court one, defeating Stetson's Alanna DiFrancesco 6-2, 7-6

On court four, South Florida's Marta Falceto Font came out the gate strong, earning a 7-5 first-set win. Stetson's Noa Cohen, however, responded with 6-0 and 6-1 wins in the second and third sets to give the Hatters their second point of the day and cut the Bulls lead to 3-2.

It all came down to the Bulls' Ireland Simme on court four and Walsh on court six, with USF needing just one point and Stetson needing both.

Both Simme and Walsh suffered 2-6 losses in their first sets but were able to bounce back strong and force a third set.

On court six, the score was tied at six a piece in the third set before Simme came up big in the tiebreaker, earning a 7-6 win and giving the Bulls the match-clinching point.
