Sailing Places Third in Spring Debut; Competes at Phoebe Corcoran King Team Race This Weekend

TAMPA, FLA., March 3, 2023 – USF Women's sailing wrapped up their first event of the 2023 season in St. Petersburg, posting a third-place finish among 14 teams in the USF Women's Team Race.
 
The race was held in in 6-10 knot winds and temperatures of 80+ degrees. 
 
The Bulls finished the weekend with a 10-8 record to place third behind Old Dominion University, who took honors with a 14-4 record, and Jacksonville University who took second place. They edged out Wisconsin who finished 1-17.
 
USF pairings for the event were: Emma Shakespeare sailing with Olivia Smith, Sydney Monahan sailing with Ochithya Fernando, Heidi Hicks sailing with Janie Powell, and Kay Brunsvold sailing with Jewel Kelly.
 
UP NEXT
USF will compete in the Phoebe Corcoran King Team Race Saturday, March 4, and Sunday, March 5.
 
About USF Sailing
The USF sailing program has reached the national finals in seven of the last eight years. The Bulls finished in the top 10 during the 2012 and 2013 seasons. The sailing team is based out of St. Petersburg and led by head coach Allison Jolly, a former USA Olympian and 2016 Florida Sports Hall of Fame inductee.
