Tampa, Fla. (March 5, 2023) – The University of South Florida Women's Tennis rallied back from an early deficit to defeat Toledo 5-2, on Sunday at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
 
In doubles, The Bulls couldn't muster a win, with the Rockets securing courts one (6-3) and two (6-1), leaving court three unfinished.
 
In singles action, the Bulls started off slow. Grace Schumacher and Cliona Walsh were able to win their first sets on courts two and six, however, the other four courts favored the Rockets.
 
In the second sets, all six courts swapped winners. South Florida got wins from Sierra Berry, Laura Pellicer, Ireland Simme, and Marta Falceto Font.
 
With all six courts going to a third set, Toledo was still holding a 1-0 lead and the Bulls needed to win four of the remaining sets.
 
In the third set, Schumacher put up a strong performance on court two, winning 6-2, 5-7, 6-3, claiming South Florida's first point of the day.
 
Toledo responded by taking court three, but South Florida took the points with Falceto Font on court five and Walsh on court six, giving the Bulls a 3-2 lead.
 
On court four, Simme put the match away for South Florida, defeating the Rockets' Sanjana Tallamraju 2-6, 7-6 (10-8), 6-1.
 
After already clinching the win, Berry gave the Bulls one final point, defeating Toledo's Cassie Alcala 2-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5.

"Our team has been resilient this spring, and they found a way to stay close with them, stay in the match, and then we started to turn things with Laura on court three," said Head Coach Cristina Moros. "She started the momentum shift, winning that second set and then you can kind of see it around the board and how it spread to the other courts. Obviously really proud of the team and it was a great team effort, great fight."
