
South Florida Cross County Compete in Second Meet on Year

The Men's team finished ninth, Women’s seventh in Gainesville on Friday
Gainesville, Fla., September 15, 2023 – The University of South Florida men's and women's cross country teams completed their second meet of the season on Friday morning at the Mountain Dew Invitational at Mark Bostic Golf Course in Gainesville Fla.
For the 7:40 a.m. men's 8K, USF finished ninth out of 15 teams running. Sophomore Tyler Wadsworth (Port Charlotte) was USF's top male finisher, coming in 39th overall with a time of 25:16.8, while freshman Jackson Dravo (Creekside) was 2.7 seconds behind him, coming in 43rd overall with a time of 25:19.5 on the day. Senior Jonathan Reid (Bradenton) also finished in the top 60 runners, placing 58th out of the 178 runners, with a time of 25:30.8 this morning.
For the 8:20 a.m. women's 3 mile, the Bulls earned seventh out of 14 teams competing. Three Bull runners placed in the top 50, and freshman Delaney Stephens finished as the team's top performer coming 31st overall out of 139 runners, with a time of 18:06.7 on the course. Behind her in 43rd was senior Kelly Lynch (Wilmington, Del.), who finished just over 11 seconds later (18:17.8). Freshman Marlo Hibler (Ft. Lauderdale) rounded out the top 50 with a time of 18:31.8 on the day.
"Today provided another great opportunity for us to move the program in a positive direction.," Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Erik Jenkins said. "It was good to see improvement and we look forward to continuing to build with quality future competitions."
Up next, the Bulls travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to compete in the FSU Invitational scheduled for Friday, Sept. 29.
About USF Cross Country
The USF Cross Country team has earned 2 All-America selections, Christina Benton in 2002 and Gray Mavhera in 1994. The Bulls have advanced to the NCAA Cross Country Championships seven times in program history, three times for the men and four times for the women. The USF men's team have won seven team conference championships and the women have won five team championships. Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2019 and during his tenure, the Bulls posted twelve program records and 106 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium, as well as the 2022 AAC Country Cross Country Championship at Holloway Park.
