Jack Taylor, Tight Ends Coach

Taylor Promoted To Tight Ends Coach

January 10, 2024

Tampa, Fla. Jan. 10, 2024 – USF head coach Alex Golesh today announced the promotion of senior quality control analyst Jack Taylor to tight ends coach.

Taylor helped the Boca Raton Bowl-winning offense lead the nation in plays per game (1,028), while finishing 21st in yards (5,871), 17th in yards per game (451.6 in 13 games), and 31st in offensive touchdowns (50). In the wide receiver room, Taylor helped develop offensive strategies that led wide receiver Sean Atkins to break the school record in receiving yards (1,054) and receptions (92), becoming the program's first 1,000-yard receiver. Atkins' previous career totals in four seasons at USF before Taylor's arrival were 332 yards and 29 catches. Taylor's help also led to wide receiver Naiem Simmons setting the USF single-game receiving yards record with 272 yards in a win vs. Rice (9/23).

Taylor followed Golesh from the University of Tennessee to the Bulls last year after serving as an offensive analyst under head coach Josh Heupel for two seasons (2021-22). There Taylor did his part to help the Vols become the nation's highest-scoring and most explosive offense in 2022, shattering program records and rising to No. 1 in the nation in scoring (47.33), yards per game (538.1), points per possession (3.24) and yards per play (7.35). Tennessee was the only team to average over 300 yards passing and 200 yards rushing in the 2022 season and had scored 40-plus points in 15 of its 25 games since Taylor's arrival. He was part of a staff that helped propel the Vols from three wins (3-7) the season before his arrival to 10 wins and a No. 6 College Football Playoff ranking in 2022.

Before Taylor's time in Knoxville, Tenn., he spent the two seasons prior (2019-20) at UCF under then-head coach Josh Heupel. Taylor served as an offensive quality control specialist, developing practice plans, team goals, and improvement strategies, while working directly with Heupel and leading the Knights' scout team. During that 2020 season, Taylor first worked with then-UCF co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Alex Golesh.

Before his time with Heupel and Golesh, Taylor served in his first analyst position in college football for one season (2018) as an offensive quality control specialist for Southern Methodist University.

Taylor's coaching career first took off during his time as a student at the University of Missouri. From Feb. 2015 through Sept. 2017, he worked as a student assistant coach. Taylor attended the University of Missouri starting in 2013, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Multi/Interdisciplinary studies by the spring of 2017. He was a member of Sigma Pi Fraternity and was a Leadership Council and Academic Council Member within the school.
