WICHITA, Kan. (November 1, 2024) – The University of South Florida men's and women's cross-country teams competed at the 2024 American Athletic Conference Championships in Wichita, Kansas, on Friday, Nov. 1, showcasing both races on ESPN+.
The men's team finished 11th overall in the 8K, scoring 312 points. Sophomore
Jackson Dravo led the way, clocking 26:02.1 to place 52nd. Following him was sophomore
Sean Perry, who finished 64th with a time of 26:28.8. Freshman
Clayton Knight completed the race in 26:42.1, earning 72nd place, with freshman
Jayven Garcia close behind in 76th at 26:57.2. Rounding out the Bulls' finishers were junior John Keester (27:37.5) in 87th, senior
Sebastian Edwards (27:38.4) in 88th, and freshman
Andrew Marello, who crossed the line in 28:23.7 to place 91st.
The women's team took 10th place in the 6K, earning 281 points. Junior
Hailey Cohen led USF's efforts, placing 42nd with a time of 22:38.9. Senior
Sydney Granack followed closely in 48th, finishing in 22:45.2. Sophomore
Delaney Stephens completed the race in 23:03.2, placing 60th, while sophomore
Katelyn Thompson and junior
Chloe Fernander placed 77th and 78th, respectively, with times of 24:00.4 and 24:02.1. Senior
Victoria Valdez finished in 82nd with a time of 24:09.5, while sophomores
Catalina Edwards and
Marlo Hibler rounded out the lineup with a time of 26:43.4 and 26:50.4.
About USF Cross Country
The USF Cross Country team has earned 2 All-America selections, Christina Benton in 2002 and Gray Mavhera in 1994. The Bulls have advanced to the NCAA Cross Country Championships seven times in program history, three times for the men and four times for the women. The USF men's teams have won seven team conference championships, and the women have won five team championships. Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2019 and during his tenure the Bulls posted twelve program records and 106 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 and 2023 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium, as well as the 2022 AAC Country Cross Country Championship at Holloway Park.
