TAMPA (March 16, 2024) – No. 63 South Florida (10-7) wrapped up an eight-match homestand, which spanned nearly a month, with a decisive 4-2 victory over No. 40 Yale (11-5) on Saturday. The homestand saw the Bulls defeat three different teams that positioned ahead of them in the ITA Rankings and closed the spring slate with a 10-3 mark on their home courts.
During the course of the homestand, South Florida defeated No. 74 Michigan State, while the Bulls were unranked, No. 54 VCU and No. 40 Yale on Saturday to send seniors
Nadja Bay Christians,
Marta Falceto Font and
Grace Schumacher out on a high note.
"I couldn't have asked for a better senior day," said head coach
Cristina Moros. "We have been struggling in doubles and the team came out and took care of it today. Then to have the three seniors secure wins against a highly-ranked team at home – it doesn't get much better than that. It was a total team effort today and they earned this win. The team once again competed at an extremely high level, and I couldn't be prouder to be their coach today."
Melisa Senli and
Kelly Vargas were 6-2 winners during doubles play while the team of Falceto Font and
Ireland Simme secured the team point with a 7-5 triumph.
Font secured the first singles point with a 6-1, 6-3 victory on Court 4. Yale went on to tie the team score at 2-2 before Bay Christians outlasted her opponent on Court 2 to put the Bulls back in front. She earned a 6-0, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5) tiebreaker win.
It was only fitting that Schumacher, the longest-tenured Bull and three-time All-AAC honoree secured the team victory on Court 1. Schumacher ended the match with a 7-5, 6-7 (4-7), 6-1 win.
