TAMPA (March 24, 2024) – The No. 57-ranked University of South Florida women's tennis team (11-8) traveled to Charlotte, N.C. for a pair of matches against ITA Top 50 opponents and closed the road trip with a 4-3 victory over host and No. 48-ranked Charlotte (14-6) on Sunday.
South Florida opened the trip with a 4-0 loss to No. 43 SMU (8-9) on a neutral court Saturday before bouncing back for the road win on Sunday.
"We have been talking about how important it was to get a great road win," said head coach
Cristina Moros. "This team found a way to gut out an incredible win against a very solid Charlotte team that has been playing fantastic tennis. I have been saying all season that our team is competing at an extremely high level. This is a result of their hard work and belief together. I'm very proud to coach such an incredible group of young women."
The Bulls took a 1-0 lead after doubles play against the 49ers with wins by
Marta Falceto Font/
Ireland Simme on Court 2 and
Melisa Senli/
Kelly Vargas on Court 3.
Charlotte pulled ahead on the team scoreboard, 2-1, early in singles play until
Grace Schumacher tallied a 6-4, 6-4 win on Court 2 to answer back.
Falceto Font went the distance on Court 3 with a 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 victory and Senli sealed the South Florida win by scores of 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 on Court 4.
Falceto Font improved to 10-6 in singles play this season, Schumacher to 11-7 and Senli to 10-3.

The Bulls conclude their regular season slate in Miami with a pair of matches on April 6-7. South Florida will face Rice and FIU over the two-match road trip before heading to Dallas, Texas for the AAC Championship on April 17-21.
