USF Track and Field Punches Ticket to Eugene, Ore. and Advance Six Men to Quarterfinals

Goodness Iredia punched his ticket to the NCAA Championships in the long jump, and six other men will have a chance to do the same Friday.

Tampa, Fla. May 21, 2024 – The South Florida Track and Field team opened competition at the NCAA East Regionals in Lexington, Ky. on Wednesday.
 
The men started off the first of a four-day gendered competition by punching one ticket to Eugene, Ore. for the NCAA Championships, and advancing six other men to the quarterfinals on Friday.

Goodness Iredia helped South Florida officially book a ticket to Eugene, Oregon for the NCAA Championships June 5-9. His 7.75m (25' -5.25") long jump was the third-best of the field today.
 
Abdul-Rasheed Saminu ran the eighth-fastest 100m dash time (10.34) of the NCAA Championships' First Round. He moves on to the Quarterfinals and will compete at 6:35 p.m. Friday, with a trip alongside Iredia to Eugene, Ore. on the line.
 
Tre'Sean Bouie ran the 22nd-fastest 400m dash time (46.51) of the NCAA Championships' First Round. Bouie moves on and will compete in the Quarterfinals at 6:50 p.m. Friday.
 
Devontie Archer ran the 14th-fastest 400m hurdles time (51.13) of the NCAA Championships' First Round. Archer moves on and will compete in the Quarterfinals at 7:25 p.m. Friday
 
Then in the Bulls' last event of the day, the 200m dash, three men had top-24 times and advanced to Friday's Quarterfinals. Jaleel Croal ran the 11th-fastest time (20.54), followed by Saminu running the 13th-fastest time (20.55), and Shevioe Reid with the 21st-fastest time (20.68). The three men will have a chance to advance on to Eugene, Ore. Friday night at 7:50 p.m.

The USF track and field men's team won the 2024 Indoor and Outdoor AAC Championship. Romaine Beckford won the 2023 NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships in the men's high jump as a Bull. The team has earned 56 All-America selections and at least one All-American in 10 of the last 12 years, including a record eight athletes claiming 11 honors in 2021. Tampa native Shaniya Benjamin set a program record earning three All-American honors during the 2021 outdoor season, while triple jumper Matthew O'Neal, a 2016 graduate, became USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. Bulls have posted two NCAA runner-up finishes since 2013 - O'Neal (triple jump, 2016) and Courtney Anderson (high jump, 2013). Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2020 and in the 2021 outdoor season the Bulls posted seven program records and 40 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium located on the east end of campus.
