LAWRENCE, Kan. (August 29, 2024) – The University of South Florida hit the road for the first time this season with a trip to Kansas on Thursday.
Georgia Brown's scored the equalizer with under two minutes left on the clock, which led to a 1-1 draw between the Bulls (3-1-1) and the Jayhawks (2-0-2).
Kansas came out of the gate fast and produced a shot on goal within the first minute of play.
Leire Herraez Gallach was unfazed and made a diving save to keep KU off the board.
Sarah Brunner notched the first shot of the match for South Florida, in the 13th minute, but the Jayhawks keeper was there to make the save.
The match went to the half scoreless. Herraez Gallach made four saves in the opening stanza.
Brunner got the second half started with a dangerous chance in the 50th minute. She had a breakaway after a through ball, but the KU keeper made a diving save to keep USF off the scoreboard.
Saige Wimes got the Jayhawks on the board with a header in the 57th minute.

Georgia Brown to a forward position late in the second half. That move led to South Florida tying the match with under two minutes to play.
Gentiana Fetaj delivered a beautiful ball into the box from just inside the attacking third. The ball was sent to the middle of the box where
Georgia Brown headed it down off the far post and into the back of the net.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw. After Kansas produced five shots on goal in the first half, the South Florida defense held KU to zero shots on goal in the second half.
Georgia Brown collected her third goal of the season, while Fetaj picked up her third assist. Brunner finished the contest with two shots on goal. Herraez Gallach played all 90 minutes in goal for the Bulls and came up with four saves. She moved to 3-1-1 on the campaign in goal.

The 2024 season will be the first with Chris Brown at the helm. He spent the last 17 seasons as the associate head coach. Brown helped lead the Bulls to three AAC regular season titles, three AAC Tournament titles, and eight NCAA Tournament appearances – winning a conference title every year from 2017-21 while making five straight NCAA appearances during that period. Brown helped lead the Bulls to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 2010, a program-record 16 wins and program-best NCAA Tournament third-round appearance in 2019, both conference regular season and tournament titles in 2020, and a string of 10 straight seasons with 10 or more wins (2012-21). Brown has helped lead the Bulls to every NCAA appearance in program history, including two appearances in the second round, and three AAC Championship Game appearances.
As associate head coach, he mentored the program's first All-American and recent USF Athletic Hall of Fame inductee Evelyne Viens, who went on to earn three total All-America honors and an Olympic gold medal with the Canadian National Team at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo. Goalie Sydney Martinez (2020) and forward Sydny Nasello (2020 and 2021) also earned All-America honors and were among the Bulls that have earned a total of eight AAC Offensive Player of the Year, AAC Midfielder of the Year, AAC Defensive Player of the Year or AAC Goalkeeper of the Year honors. Players he has coached hold every program's individual record and most, if not all, of the top 10 marks in every category.
