TAMPA, Fla. (January 13, 2025)Â
– Student-athletes at the University of South Florida continue to excel in their academic pursuits, achieving unprecedented success during the Fall 2024 semester.
The Fall 2024 semester marked a historic milestone for USF's student-athletes, who represent 21 different programs. They collectively earned the highest USF Athletics GPA on record at 3.46, extending a streak of 20 consecutive terms with a GPA above 3.00. More than 85 percent of student-athletes achieved a GPA of 3.00 or higher, with seven teams recording their best-ever semester GPAs: baseball (3.35), football (3.18), men's tennis (3.72), men's track and field (3.45), women's basketball (3.64), women's lacrosse (3.75), and women's volleyball (3.60).
Men's teams achieved an impressive 3.31 semester GPA, while women's teams excelled with a 3.64 semester GPA. Men's tennis recorded the highest men's GPA, while women's beach volleyball (3.88) recorded the highest women's GPA during the fall semester.
This academic excellence was underscored by the graduation of 26 student-athletes in Fall 2024, including 23 who earned bachelor's degrees and three who completed master's programs. Additionally, nearly 82 percent of all student-athletes—421 individuals—were named to the USF Athletic Department Honor Roll.
"Our student-athletes continue to set new standards for excellence in the classroom and beyond," said USF Vice President for Athletics, Michael Kelly.
"Their achievements reflect incredible dedication, perseverance, and the ability to balance the rigorous demands of college athletics with academic responsibilities, supported by our outstanding coaches and academic staff."
Released in November, the latest Graduation Success Rate (GSR) report further highlighted the academic achievements of USF's student-athletes. The department achieved a program-record GSR of 88 percent, marking the fourth straight year that USF's average overall GSR has been 85 percent or above. The GSR report is a four-class average that includes student-athletes who entered as freshmen in 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17, and 2017-18, and graduated within a six-year period. It also accounts for mid-year enrollees, transferring student-athletes coming into USF, and those leaving the university in good standing.
