Bulls drop pair of matches at ITA Kickoff Weekend

South Florida lost to No. 2 Texas A&M and Denver.

TAMPA (January 26, 2025) – The University of South Florida women's tennis team participated at the ITA Opening Weekend in College Station, Texas hosted by the defending national champions Texas A&M on January 24-25. In a loaded bracket, South Florida dropped its opening match to No. 2 Texas A&M, 4-0, and also fell by a 4-0 score in the consolation match to the University of Denver.

Against the Aggies, Charlotte Ruud and Karine Kulidjian were tied 3-3 on court 3 before the home team claimed the doubles point and their match was stopped. In singles play, Melisa Senli won her opening set on court 1, 7-5, but her match against the No. 15-ranked player in the country also went unfinished.

Ruud and Kulidjian found themselves in a 4-4 tie against Denver on court 3 once again before the team point was decided and play was stopped. In singles action, Ruud picked up a second set win on court 3 and Margherita Marcon also took a set from her opponent on court 2 before Denver finished the other courts to win the match.

Up Next

The Bulls will travel to DeLand to face Stetson on Wednesday, January 29 at 12 p.m. before traveling back to Tampa for their home opener against Texas State on Friday, January 31 at 12 p.m.
