LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. (November 6, 2025) – The South Florida (9-8-3) women's soccer team battled Rice (10-3-6) to a scoreless draw through 110 minutes in the American Athletic Conference Championship semifinals. Rice advanced in penalty kicks, 6-5, at Premier Sports Campus.
The Bulls controlled much of the match offensively, outshooting the Owls 17-13 and placing 11 shots on goal.
Leire Herraez Gallach earned her second straight shutout, recording three saves across regulation and overtime.
Despite multiple scoring chances—including key attempts from
Noelle Sather,
Sadie Sider-Echenberg, and
Sophia Cabral—USF was unable to find the back of the net. Rice goalkeeper Kirsten Ruf tallied 11 saves to preserve the 0-0 draw.
The match moved to penalties after neither side broke through in two overtime periods. Sather,
Elyse Thornton, Cabral,
Gaby Rourke, and
Mia Rodach converted their kicks for the Bulls, but the final attempt by Selma Åström was saved as Rice advanced 5-4 in the shootout.

Brown spent 17 years as associate head coach (2007–2023), helping USF to three American Athletic Conference titles, eight NCAA appearances, and a 10-year streak of 10+ win seasons. He coached USF's first All-American, Evelyne Viens, now a Hall of Famer and Olympic gold medalist, and has developed multiple American Athletic Conference award winners. Players under his guidance hold most of the program's records.
