TAMPA, May 2, 2025- The University of South Florida baseball team (24-19; 12-7 American) fell to the UTSA Roadrunners (35-10, 16-3 American) to open the series on Friday night at Red McEwen Field at the USF Baseball Stadium. The Bulls fell with a final score of 11-5.
South Florida still holds second place in the AAC standings. The Bulls are four games behind the UTSA Roadrunners (15-3). The Bulls have a one-game lead on Charlotte, who fell to Rice earlier today.
South Florida struck early, scoring twice in the second and third innings to grab a 4–1 lead. Right fielder
Marcus Brodil delivered a clutch two-run sacrifice fly, and shortstop
Bradke Lohry added a two-RBI single to help build the advantage. Designated hitter
Rafael Betancourt chipped in with a double and an RBI.
Corey Braun gave the Bulls a competitive start on the mound, striking out 10 over 6.1 innings while allowing just one walk and five earned runs. However, UTSA broke the game open with a five-run seventh inning and tacked on three more in the ninth.
Relievers
Landen Yorek and
Brandon Keyster struggled to contain the Roadrunners' bats, combining to allow six runs on four hits and three walks over 2.2 innings.
Despite eight hits and strong plate discipline (six walks), USF couldn't match UTSA's firepower late in the game. The Bulls stranded nine runners and were held scoreless over the final three innings.

- Braun was one strikeout from matching his career high of 11, which he set earlier this season against Charlotte.
- Lohry led with two hits for his ninth multi-hit performance.
- Brodil had his seventh multi-RBI game, while Lohry had his eighth.

- Lance Trippel has reached base in seven consecutive games. In conference play, he has reached base in 17 straight.
- Sebastian Greico is now tied for sixth place in the American with 33 walks on the season.
- Corey Braun, Landen Yorek, and Brandon Keyster totaled 14 strikeouts, setting a new season high.
