Loana Vargas v Brown

USF Women's Tennis Fall to SMU Mustangs

March 29, 2026

The University of South Florida women's tennis team closed out its road swing on Sunday with a matchup at SMU, falling to the Mustangs in Dallas.

Doubles play opened the match, with SMU securing the early point after wins on courts two and three. Margherita Marcon and Sienna Leeson were in a tight battle on court one, trailing just 5-4 before the match went unfinished.

In singles, SMU added points on courts six, one, and two to clinch the match. Loana Vargas dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision, followed by Melisa Senli falling 6-3, 6-1 on court one. Sienna Leeson battled on court two but came up short in a 6-2, 6-2 match.

Several matches were left unfinished, with momentum favoring the Bulls. Margherita Marcon led her match after taking the first set 6-3 and was ahead in the third set when play was called. Josefine Falster pushed to a third set after a strong second set, while Amelie Drukerova also forced a third after winning her opening set and maintaining control early in the match.

Despite the result, the Bulls showed fight across the lineup, with multiple courts trending in their favor before the match concluded. USF will look to build on those efforts as the regular season nears its end. The Bulls return to action on Friday, April 3 at Rice.
