South Florida Women’s Golf Starts the Season with a Top-10 Finish

Laura Nepper tied for 15th, leading the Bulls
TORONTO (September 22, 2026) – The University of South Florida women's golf team opened the 2026-27 season at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational and placed seventh. Laura Nepper led the Bulls as the team finished in seventh place with a combined score of 916 (+52).
Nepper, making her debut as a Bull, moved up six spots on the final day and tied for 15th with a 225 (+9). She made one birdie in the opening round and finished with a 78 (+6). She finished the second round with a 73 (+1) and two birdies. She posted a final-round score of 74 (+2). She tallied five birdies for the tournament. She collected 31 pars across the three rounds, tied for the eighth most in the tournament.
Cherry Marley opened the tournament with an 83 (+11) but bounced back in the second and third rounds, posting a 72 (E). She climbed 12 spots on the final day and finished 21st at 227 (+11). She recorded eight birdies for the tournament.
Jillian Fatkin produced a top-25 finish in her South Florida debut. She moved up three spots and tied for 22nd with a 228 (+12). She was one of four players in the field of 60 to make an eagle. She finished the tournament with four birdies.
Duda Rocha finished with four birdies, while Aliya Liberatore had two birdies for the tournament.
Holly McLean played in the 2026 Eckerd Invitational and tied for third. She shot a final-round 70 (-2) and moved up 11 spots. She finished with a 221 (+5) over three rounds and recorded seven birdies.

Tampa native AJ Newell, a former LPGA Tour Player and NCAA All-American, enters her third season as head coach of USF women's golf. In her first season, she coached Leonor Medeiros to the American All-Conference Team. Newell coached the Bulls to four top-10 finishes in the 2024-25 season.
Newell took over leadership of the Bulls' program following a successful three-year stint as assistant coach at the University of Michigan, where she helped guide the Wolverines to three straight NCAA Regional appearances, a 2022 Big Ten title, and a trip to the 2022 NCAA Championship Finals.
