South Florida Sailing to Compete at Two Regattas This Weekend

USF Sailing makes its yearly trip to New Orleans to compete at the Sugar Bowl
TAMPA, FLA. (SEPT. 24, 2026) – USF Sailing travels to Louisiana this weekend with six sailors while the rest of the team sails in a home event.
USF skippers Ghislaine van Empel, Grace Jones, and Taylor Ashton, and crews Carlin Fretwell, Laura Koszeghy, and Esme Pray, will fly to New Orleans to compete at the Sugar Bowl hosted by Tulane University. The event is a cross-regional regatta with teams coming from across the country.
Most South Florida women will stay home for the SAISA TOP 6 hosted by USF in St. Peterburg. It will be a three-division event with all three boats' results counting towards the team's final score. The races will be held at the Haney Landing Sailing Center.
Setting The Stage:
Head coach Allison Jolly's team finished third at the SAISA Top 9 in Charleston last weekend with multiple top-five finishes. The team also had great success in their first race weekend with a third-place finish at the Singlehanded Conference Championship.
Home Sailing Attendance:
Attendance at USF sailing events is free. USF home sailing events are held at the Haney Landing Sailing Center on the University of South Florida campus.

About USF Sailing
The USF sailing program won a SAISA conference championship in 2025 and has reached the national finals in 13 of the last 14 years. The Bulls finished in the top 10 during the 2012 and 2013 seasons. The sailing team, which has won eight SAISA conference titles, was formed in 1997 and is based out of St. Petersburg. The program has been led since 2004 by head coach Allison Jolly. One of the most successful women in U.S. national sailing history, Jolly is a former USA Olympian and Gold Medalist (1988), a 2016 Florida Sports Hall of Fame inductee, and a 2019 U.S. National Sailing Hall of Fame inductee.
