Zoe Lazar captures Division C Singles title After Undefeated Weekend
TAMPA, Fla., Sept. 28, 2026 – South Florida women's tennis wrapped up competition at the Bedford Cup on Sunday, with eight programs from across Florida competing in the three-day tournament hosted by the Bulls.
The weekend marked the first action for Bulls transfers Zoe Lazar and Paulina Montiel, as both newcomers made their South Florida debuts.
Lazar highlighted the weekend for South Florida, capturing the Division C Singles Championship and going undefeated in singles play.
Friday, Sept. 25
On the opening day of the Bedford Cup, Lazar and Margherita Marcon earned two doubles victories, defeating North Florida's Sydney Stark and Jessica Gunter, 7-5, before adding another 7-5 win against Florida Gulf Coast's June Bjork and Nora Svensson.
Josefine Falster and Francesca Miglio dropped both doubles matches, while Montiel and Kelly Loana Vargas split their two matches, falling to North Florida before beating Florida Gulf Coast.
In singles, Lazar opened the weekend with a straight-set win over Stetson's Alissia Aleksandra Kivi, 6-1, 6-1. Marcon went 2-0, defeating FIU's Mia Sarcev, 6-0, 6-2, and North Florida.
Montiel earned a three-set victory against Florida Atlantic's Malwina Rowinska, taking the second set, 6-4, before securing the deciding tiebreak, 10-4.
Saturday, Sept. 26
In doubles, Montiel and Vargas Gonzalez earned a 6-4 victory over North Florida's Emma Kette and Aubrey Effler. Lazar and Marcon battled in the doubles semifinals but ultimately fell to Florida State.
Lazar continued her singles run with two victories, advancing past North Florida's Emma Kette before defeating Florida Atlantic's Malika Amirgalieva in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 11-9, to reach Sunday's singles championship.
Falster collected two three-set victories against opponents from Florida State and UCF. She defeated Florida State's Laura Putz, 4-6, 6-4, 10-4, then beat UCF's Jade Psonka, 4-6, 6-1, 10-8.
Miglio earned a three-set victory against FIU's Victoria Papadopoulou, 6-7, 6-2, 10-5. Vargas Gonzalez added a straight-set win over Florida A&M's Arien Thomas, 6-3, 6-2.
Sunday, Sept. 27
Lazar capped her weekend with a victory in the Division C singles championship, defeating Florida Atlantic's Alexia Patru 6-4, 4-6, 6-1. Lazar went undefeated in singles action, finishing the Bedford Cup with a perfect 4-0 record.
Falster advanced by walkover against FIU's Jelena Vico before closing the weekend with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over North Florida's Aubrey Effler.
Miglio added her second singles victory of the weekend, defeating FIU's Aleksandra Simeva in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 10-7. Montiel and Vargas Gonzalez also concluded singles competition Sunday.
