Biography

Recruited to USF as a transfer to play basketball, Matos walked on to the football team during spring practice in 2022...he had never had football pads or a helmet on before...transferred to USF to play basketball after playing in 20 games and making 15 starts in his freshman season for the New Mexico Lobos…played in 28 games and made four starts for USF basketball in the 2021-22 season, averaging 1.5 ppg and 2.7 rpg while playing 10.6 minutes per game.

FOOTBALL
2022:
Walked on to the football team during spring drills...at 6-9, he worked at defensive end and as a kick blocker on field goal attempts on special teams...moved to offensive line in late September...saw action in two games during the 2022 season, playing some special teams snaps in the season-opener vs. BYU (9/3) and some special teams and defensive line snaps in a win over Howard (9/10).

BASKETBALL
2021-22: Played in 28 games and made four starts for USF basketball in the 2021-22 season, averaging 1.5 ppg and 2.7 rpg while playing 10.6 minutes per game...scored 41 points and collected 75 rebounds and five blocks on the year...had a season-high nine rebounds and five points while playing 15 minutes in a win over UCF (1/15)...made a season high two field goals in three games...posted 13 points and nine rebounds in an exhibition win over Vorhees College.
 
AS A REDSHIRT FRESHMAN (2020-21 – NEW MEXICO): Played in 20 games, starting 15 for the Lobos…averaged 6.0 ppg and 4.1 rpg while shooting 52.6 percent from the field and 39 percent from the foul line…posted three double-digit scoring games and four games with seven or more rebounds…averaged 18.9 minutes per game as New Mexico posted a 6-16 record (2-15 in the Mountain West)…played in 16 of 17 conference games and made 13 starts in conference play while posting 5.0 ppg and 3.7 rpg…posted season-bests of 16 points and 10 rebounds vs. Letourneau (12/17/20), going 7-of-14 from the floor…scored 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting and added seven rebounds vs. Air Force (2/22/21)…scored 10 points and added five rebounds in his collegiate debut vs. Rice (12/13/20).
 
AS A FRESHMAN (2019-20): A redshirt season
 
HIGH SCHOOL: A three-star recruit with 16 offers, including SEC schools Auburn, Florida and Mississippi State as well as Illinois, TCU, Texas Tech, Virginia Tech and West Virginia..originally committed to Mississippi State, but went to New Mexico after a coaching change...competed at Hamilton Heights Christian Academy in Chattanooga, Tenn. where he ranked No. 3 in the state and No. 16 in the country after posting the most rebounds in the state of Tennessee… registered the most double-doubles in the state of Tennessee while leading his Hamilton Heights squad to the state championship in 2018.
 
PERSONAL: Born Dec. 8 in the Dominican Republic to parents Jose and Kirsten … has one sibling, Ismeal (14) … favorite hobby is watching movies … favorite athlete is Lebron James … favorite food is rice and chicken … favorite movie is Hulk...in his homeland of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Matos was one of the best pitchers in the D.R. ... threw in the low 90s with a fastball, curve, changeup and slider in his arsenal....also had decent power as an outfielder...he didn't know English when he arrived in the United States, but started learning phrases from Google...
