The 2009-10 academic year marks Michael Hogan’s 11th as assistant director of athletic communications at USF, where he is responsible for the public and media relations efforts for the women's basketball and men's soccer teams.
During his first four years at USF, Hogan worked with the men's basketball program where he accompanied the team to two National Invitation Tournaments (2000 and 2002).
Hogan became the women’s basketball publicist before the 2003-04 campaign. That year, the women's basketball team advanced to its first-ever postseason tournament, the Women's National Invitation Tournament, and then made it back-to-back trips to the WNIT the following season. During the 2005-06 campaign, he publicized the team as it advanced to its first-ever NCAA Tournament. In all, Hogan has accompanied the team to all five of its postseason tournaments in it’s 36-year history - four WNIT’s and one NCAA Tournament.
Hogan joined USF after serving as the director of sports information at Siena College in Loudonville, N.Y. (1996-99). While at Siena, he was responsible for overseeing Siena's 17-sport NCAA Division I athletic program. During his tenure, Siena gained an automatic berth to the 1999 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament, representing the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in the West Regional in Denver. Hogan was also the sole media contact for, at that time, NCAA Division I-AA football's all-time rushing leader, Reggie Greene, who amassed 5,415 yards for Siena from 1993-96.
Hogan also served as the sports information director at Methodist College in Fayetteville, N.C. (1993-95).
A native of Albany, N.Y., Hogan entered the field of sports public relations in 1991 as the assistant director of public relations and promotions for the Fayetteville (NC) Flyers of the Global Basketball Association. His first collegiate sports information position was at Siena, where he served as assistant sports information director from 1992-93.
During his professional career, Hogan has served on the media relations staffs at the 1994 Men's Basketball Final Four in Charlotte, N.C., and the 2004 and 2006 Women's Final Four in New Orleans and Boston, respectively. He was on the Media Coordination Committee for the 2007 Women’s Final Four in Cleveland.
In 2008, Hogan once again served on the Media Coordination Committee and also held the position of Media Coordinator for the Tampa Bay Local Organizing Committee as USF hosted the 2008 Women’s Final Four at the St. Pete Times Forum.
In addition, Hogan has also worked on the media relations staff for the 1997 NCAA Men's Basketball East Regional in Syracuse, N.Y.
Hogan also assisted the Tampa Bay Lightning and the National Hockey League media relations staffs at the 2004 Stanley Cup Finals in Tampa, and serves on the gameday media relations staff for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
A 1991 graduate of Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, N.Y., Hogan earned a bachelor of arts degree in communications. He is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and the United States Basketball Writers Association.
Hogan lived a "SportsCenter moment" making a one-handed catch of Wade Boggs' 3,000th hit, a two-run home run in the seventh inning, at Tropicana Field on August 7, 1999. Boggs is the first player to ever hit a home run for his 3,000th hit.
Hogan and his wife Stephanie reside in Wesley Chapel with their sons Evan Michael and Connor Thomas.
