A 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District honoree, Thomas was also named the the 2019 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society and was a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy presented for outstanding academic, community and on the field achievement. He played in 44 games and made 18 starts at USF, logging 157 career tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles.
2018: Earned Google Cloud Academic All-District honors...named to the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List and the William V. Campbell Trophy Watch List…played in all 13 games, making six starts at safety...totaled 51 tackles (34 solo), 1.5 tackles for loss and one interception…had a team and career high 11 tackles in the season opener against Elon (9/1)…led the team with 10 tackles against ECU (9/22)…had an interception at Houston (10/27)…had seven tackles at Tulsa (10/12) and seven at Temple (11/17)...posted six tackles in the Gasparilla Bowl (12/20).
2017: Ranked eighth on the team with 44 tackles (30 solo), along with posting an interception, a tackle for loss and three pass breakups in 12 games (nine starts)…posted his first-career interception and made four tackles against Texas Tech in the Birmingham Bowl (12/23)... made a career-high 10 tackles and a tackle for loss at UConn (11/4)… made at least four tackles in six games, including six in the season opener at San Jose State (8/26).
2016: Appeared in all 13 games with four starts at the “Rover” safety position…set a career high with 55 total tackles (43 solo), good for fifth on the team…set career highs with 5.0 tackles for loss, two sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and a pass breakup…set a career high with seven tackles against Towson and UConn… finished with a career-high 2.0 tackles for loss and a sack against UConn (10/15)… posted seven tackles and his first-career fumble recovery against Towson (9/3)… forced his first fumble and made five tackles at Cincinnati (10/1)... totaled five tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in the Birmingham Bowl (12/29).
2015: Appeared in six games…totaled seven tackles….made his collegiate debut with a career-best two tackles in a 51-3 rout of FAMU (9/12)…finished the regular season setting a new career-high with five tackles in a 44-3 Thanksgiving road win at UCF (11/26).
IMMOKALEE HIGH SCHOOL: A two-star recruit, Thomas was named to the Florida Class 5A All-State Third Team…named to News-Press All-Area Defense First Team after leading the Indians with 124 total tackles along with six pass breakups, two blocked field goals, two forced fumbles and an interception as a senior… reunited with former Immokalee teammates D’Ernest Johnson and Jimmy Bayes…coached by Rich Dombroski…also received offers from Illinois, Navy.
PERSONAL: Born June 7, 1997 in Tyler, Texas...son of John and Tameja Thomas...a health sciences major that earned his degree in December 2018...named to the USF Athletics Honor Roll in fall 2017 and fall 2018...a four-time American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team selection...earned 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District honors and named to the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honore Society.
