Justin Burke joined the USF coaching staff as the Bulls’ tight ends coach and special teams coordinator in January of 2017.
Burke, who played quarterback under head coach Charlie Strong at Louisville, worked on Strong’s staffs the previous six seasons at Texas and Louisville.
“Justin is a bright young coach with a great future and I’m happy he’s joining us at USF,” Strong said. “He’s a former collegiate quarterback and an All-Big East Academic Team honoree with an MBA, so he’s a smart guy with recent playing experience and will work great with our players at USF.”
In 2018, Burke helped lead tight end Mitch Wilcox to first team all-conference honors and USF season records for a tight end of 43 receptions for 540 yards, including a game record eight catches for a career-best 109 yards at Illinois.
In his first season at USF (2017), Burke led a special teams unit that saw kicker Emilio Nadelman earn first team all-conference honors and set a USF season scoring record with 115 points. Nadelman made a USF record 20 field goals (21-of-25), set a USF record by scoring 19 points vs. Temple on 5-of-5 on field goals, and led The American and ranked 19th nationally making a USF season record 84.0 percent of his field goals. Punter Jonathan Hernandez ranked second in the conference with a 43.4 yards per punt average.
Prior to coming to USF, Burke served as a quality control special assistant, working with tight ends, at Texas during the 2016 season. He also worked as an offensive special assistant (2014-15) at Texas and as an offensive quality control assistant (2013) and offensive graduate assistant (2011-2012) at Louisville.

Burke played quarterback at Louisville (2008-10) and North Carolina State (2006-08) before beginning his collegiate coaching career as a recruiting intern under Nick Saban at Alabama in 2011.
“I am excited to join Coach Strong at South Florida and continue to build on the great momentum the program has going,” Burke said. “It's a great opportunity for me to continue my coaching career and I'm really looking forward to working with some very talented tight ends and special teams players at USF.”
Burke was a two-year letter winner and started eight games as a quarterback at Louisville before graduating with a degree in accounting in 2009. He went on to earn his master's degree in business administration from Louisville in 2011 and spent half a year working in the financial industry before returning to college football.
He joined Strong's staff in Louisville in 2011 and was part of team's that won a pair of Big East Conference Championships (2011, 2012) and had the nation's fourth-best winning percentage (23-3; 88.5%) over the 2012 and 2013 seasons. He worked with quarterbacks, wide receivers and tight ends during his time at Louisville, including 2012 Big East Offensive Player of the Year Teddy Bridgewater and first team All-AAC wide receiver Devante Parker.
At Texas, Burke worked with wide receivers and quarterbacks as the senior offensive special assistant. He oversaw three staff members and assisted in game planning the pass game and opponent breakdowns as well as special teams punt and kickoff schemes.
Burke was a three-time All-Big East Academic Team honoree and a 2006 All-ACC Academic Team honoree. He was part of the North Carolina State honors program and earned Dean's List recognition several times at North Carolina State and Louisville.
Burke and fiancee, Kaitlin White, are set to be married in July of 2019.
