Gabrielle Zimmerman

Gabrielle “Gabi” Zimmerman serves as an Athletic Counselor in the Sports Psychology department at USF, joining the athletics staff in October 2023 after working at the USF Counseling Center since July 2021. In her role, she provides mental health counseling and education to student-athletes, collaborates with other departments to deliver holistic care, and facilitates outreach, training, and prevention-based workshops for student-athletes and staff.

Zimmerman brings over 11 years of experience in behavioral health, including roles as a therapist, case manager, and managing supervisor overseeing a crisis stabilization unit. She has worked with diverse populations in areas such as substance use, chronic mental health, child welfare, and counseling centers, emphasizing a multicultural and strengths-based approach in all interactions. She is a licensed clinical social worker and a Qualified Supervisor (LCSW-QS), able to provide supervision for clinical social work interns pursuing licensure.

She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Social Welfare from the University of North Florida and her Master of Social Work from the University of South Florida. Outside of work, Zimmerman enjoys spending time with her wife and son, competing in local beach volleyball tournaments, and listening to podcasts.
