Johnathan Spicer returns to the Fishman Family Student-Athlete Enrichment Center (FFSAEC) in March 2026 and currently serves as the Director of Football Academics. In his current position, he oversees all football student-athletes academics. His responsibilities include recruiting, providing guidance, advising course selection, monitoring grades, assisting with graduation planning, and monitoring NCAA progress towards degree requirements. Johnathan comes from The University of South Carolina where he worked as an academic advisor with football and women’s basketball for two years. While at South Carolina, Johnathan oversaw the graduate assistantship program, served as co-liaison for University Advisory Network (UAN) and for NCAA continuing eligibility certification for the department
Prior to arriving at South Carolina, Johnathan worked at Georgia State University, where he worked as an Athletic Academic Advisor working in Academic Support/Student-Athlete development. He worked with football and women’s track & field student athletes. While at GSU, Spicer led the Summer Bridge and Winter Bridge program, which is a transitional program to help incoming student-athletes get acclimated to the University. Spicer also served on the student-athlete graduation reception and Golden Panthers Awards committee.Â
Prior to arriving at Georgia State, Spicer served as an academic coordinator at Georgia Tech, where he worked with football, women's basketball, women's tennis and softball student-athletes. Spicer earned his master’s degree in recreation and sport management from Florida International. While at FIU, he got his first start working in collegiate athletics as a student-assistant in athletic facilities and operations. During his second year of graduate school, he worked at The University of Miami as an academic services assistant and served as a mentor for various sports team. During the 2020-2021 academic year, Spicer worked at The University of South Florida and served as an assistant academic coordinator, working with football student-athletes.
Spicer graduated from Florida A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in physical education and fitness. He was a student athlete on the men’s basketball team. He is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. and National Association for Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A).
