Men’s Basketball Head Coach (1986-96); Athletic Administration (1996-2004)

Bobby Paschal left a huge mark on the USF Athletics department in almost 20 years of service, first becoming the winningest head coach in men’s basketball program history with 127 from 1986-96, leading the Bulls to their first two NCAA tournament appearances (1990, ’92) and a Sun Belt Conference tournament title in 1990.

After coaching, Paschal played a valuable role in the Bulls' entrance into college football as an assistant to the athletic director from 1996-2004.

Paschal's 10 years at the helm of USF men’s basketball featured some of the top showings in program history, including USF's first two NCAA Tournament appearances (1990, ’92). He led USF to four overall postseason tournaments, having also advanced to the NIT twice (1991, ’95), including a run to the NIT Elite Eight in 1995, and the squad's first-ever conference tournament championship (Sun Belt, 1990).

Paschal finished his career with 127 wins, still the most by any USF men's basketball coach, and was named the 1990 Sun Belt Coach of the Year. He led his squad through three conference changes (Sun Belt, Metro, C-USA) while keeping a winning record in league play.

Paschal recruited and coached USF Hall of Famers Chucky Atkins and Radenko Dobras. Atkins was one of the premier point guards in the country during his time at USF (1992-96). Just the second player to have his jersey retired at USF, Atkins ranks fourth in program history with 519 assists and sixth with 1,619 points.

Dobras also had his number retired after becoming the only Bull to lead USF in scoring in four straight seasons (1988-92). He led the Bulls to their first conference championship as the Sun Belt tournament’s MVP in 1990.

Paschal was inducted into the USF Athletics Hall of Fame in 2013.
