TAMPA, Fla. – The University of South Florida men's basketball program will host its annual golf tournament Oct. 24 at the Tampa Palms Golf and Country Club, with the event featuring an appearance by college basketball broadcaster Bill Raftery.
“I am excited about the opportunity to host the golf outing, which is our lone major fund raiser of the year,” head coach Robert McCullum said. “The proceeds from the event assist in the operations of all aspects of the program.”
Proceeds from the tournament will help support a foreign tour in 2006 and provide support for recruiting, staff retention and other critical program expenses.
The day's events, which begin with registration at 10 a.m., includes a round of golf, a basketball shootout, dinner and a “chalk talk” session with Raftery to conclude the evening.
Raftery is in his 23rd season with CBS Sports covering college basketball after concluding a stellar coaching career that included a stop most notably at Seton Hall. He also covers the NCAA Men's Final Four with CBS Radio/Westwood One and serves as an analyst during the regular season for ESPN.
“We are really looking forward to having Bill Raftery at our outing,” McCullum said. “I have known and respected him for years and admired his knowledge and love of the game of basketball. I couldn't think of anyone better to help us tip-off the 2005-06 season.”
