USF Returns to Conference Action With Sunday Night Contest Versus Syracuse

TAMPA, Fla. (October 14, 2006) - Following a 3-1 non-conference victory over in-state rival Stetson (Oct. 12), the University of South Florida men's soccer team (7-4-3, 3-2-3 BIG EAST) return to conference action, hosting the Syracuse Orange (6-6-1, 1-6-1 BIG EAST) on Sunday, Oct. 15.
The Bulls will be looking for their first conference win since Sept. 23 (1-0 at Villanova) having gone 0-1-2 in the team's last three league outings. Sunday's contest will also be the first-ever meeting between USF and Syracuse at the USF Soccer Stadium as the Bulls will look to repay the Orange for a 1-0 loss last season (Oct. 9, 2005 at Syracuse).
USF, which has won each of its last two home contests and is unbeaten in its last three outings (2-0-1), is led offensively by sophomore Jordan Seabrook. The Indianapolis, Ind., native registered his first multiple-goal outing of the 2006 season during USF's 3-1 win over Stetson. The sophomore forward has recorded six goal and two assists for 14 points. Midfielder Kris Raad is coming off his first-ever multiple-assist outing, notching two helpers versus the Hatters on Thursday. The junior leads the team in assists with five. Hermann Trophy candidate Rodrigo Hidalgo registered his second assist of the season during Thursday's contest to give the junior his 10th point of 2006. It marks the third-consecutive season that Hidalgo has tallied 10-or-more points in a season.
Goalkeeper Dane Brenner recorded seven saves versus Stetson en route to his seventh win of the season. The High Point, N.C., native enters Sunday's contest with a 0.75 GAA and a save percentage of .831. He holds a 34-19-8 record all-time with 18 shutouts and is looking to earn his first-career victory over the Orange.
Syracuse comes into Sunday's match riding a two-game winning streak, including the team's first BIG EAST win of the season (1-0 at Villanova, 10/7). The Orange are led by Kyle Hall, who has tallied five goals and three assists for 13 points. Goalkeeper Robert Cavicchia holds a 5-6-1 record with a 1.51 GAA this season.
Sunday's game will mark only the second meeting all-time between the two teams as Syracuse won the first meeting, 1-0, last season (Oct. 9, 2005).
