No. 44 Bulls Blow Past Red Storm in First BIG EAST Match-Up

TAMPA, Fla. (February 26, 2006) ? The University of South Florida women's tennis team (5-2) easily handed the St. John's Red Storm their fifth loss of the season, 7-0, Sunday afternoon at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
The Bulls swept all three doubles' matches in route to the doubles point, putting USF up 1-0. No. 12 Gabriela Duch and Neyssa Etienne easily defeated St. John's top doubles team of Alison Adamski and Nataly Tumsevica, 8-2. Not to be outdone by their teammates, Luisa Obando and Courtney Vernon didn't lose a point against Ashley Harper and Lauren Lorenzetti, defeating the tandem, 8-0.
In singles competition, USF took care of business sweeping all six matches in route to a 7-0 victory. No. 38 Vernon and No. 69 Liz Cruz both improved their spring record to 6-0 with their straight-set wins over Mariana Chachua and Barbora Blahutiakova at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions respectively.
The Bulls will return to the courts on Saturday, March 4 when they face No. 24 Pepperdine on the campus of Florida Gulf Coast University. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
