September 14, 2006 | Men's Soccer
TAMPA, Fla. (September 14) - The University of South Florida men's soccer team returns home following a string of four-consecutive matches away from the USF Soccer Stadium, hosting the No.8-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers on Friday, Sept. 15. This will mark the third BIG EAST contest between the two teams as USF and West Virginia met twice during the 2005 season with the Bulls taking both games.
USF enters Friday's contest led by reigning BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week Dane Brenner, who is coming off a 2-0-0 weekend following victories over No. 8 Notre Dame and Marquette. The High Point, N.C., native owns a 4-2-0 record with a 0.67 GAA in 2006. Sophomore Jordan Seabrook - last season's BIG EAST scoring champion - has notched a goal in three of the team's last four outings. The Indianapolis, Ind., native registered the game-winning goal at Notre Dame and the game-tying goal at Marquette last weekend. Hermann Trophy candidate Rodrigo Hidalgo notched his first goal of the 2006 season, scoring the game-winner during USF's 2-1 win over the Golden Eagles this past Sunday.
West Virginia comes into Friday's match as the BIG EAST's only unbeaten team (5-0-1). The Mountaineers are led by Jarrod Smith (this week's BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week), who has four goals and one assist for nine points. Goalkeeper Nick Noble has recorded four shutouts this season en route to a 5-0-1 record and a 0.32 GAA.
All-time the Bulls have registered a 9-2-1 record versus West Virginia, having won four-straight games, including a 4-1 victory for the Bulls during the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Championship last season (Nov. 5, 2005).
