USF Kicks Off BIG EAST Play At No. 8 Notre Dame

NOTRE DAME, Ind. (Sept. 7, 2006) - The University of South Florida (2-2-0) travels to Indiana to face the No.8-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish (2-1-1) in the BIG EAST opener for both teams on Friday, Sept. 8.
USF is coming off a tough loss versus the Duke Blue Devils, falling to the ACC power, 1-0, on Sunday, Sept. 3 at the Duke/adidas Classic. The Bulls finished the tournament 1-1-0 after beating N.C. State, 2-0, on Friday, Sept. 1.
Friday's game marks the third-consecutive road game for the Bulls, who have started the season playing three of the team's first four games away from the USF Soccer Stadium. The Bulls are led by senior Hunter West, who has notched two goals this season. The Bradenton, Fla., native has tallied 30 goals during his USF career. Goalkeeper Dane Brenner enters Friday's contest with a 2-2-0 record, notching two shutout victories this season. Brenner needs just one more win to reach 30 for his career.
Friday's BIG EAST contest will be USF's 12th after finishing the 2005 season with a 9-2 record in conference play. However, this will mark the first-ever BIG EAST contest between USF and Notre Dame. The Irish are the second-consecutive top 10 team USF has faced.
